Cedar City, UT – November 4, 2025 — Southwest Technical College is proud to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 Safe Community Grant from Enbridge Gas through its Fueling Futures – Safe Community First Responder Grant program. The funding will support Southwest Tech’s ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality training to first responders and enhance safety in southern Utah communities.

Since 2002, Enbridge’s Safe Community First Responder Grant program has supported emergency response organizations across North America, including fire departments, EMS units, law enforcement agencies, and emergency management teams. The program provides grants for safety equipment, professional training, and community safety education. Enbridge has invested over $22 million in North American emergency responder organizations, including $2.2 million in 284 organizations in 2024 alone.

The $10,000 grant will help strengthen Southwest Tech’s Public Safety programs, including their Firefighter, Paramedic, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, and Emergency Medical Technician. These programs provide students with access to advanced tools and hands-on learning experiences that simulate real-world emergency response scenarios. They are vital in preparing future public safety professionals who serve the southern Utah region and its surrounding areas.

“This grant directly supports our mission to provide hands-on, industry-relevant training that empowers our students to make a difference in their communities,” said Brennan Wood, President of Southwest Technical College. “We’re deeply grateful to Enbridge for recognizing the importance of education and training in building safer communities.”

“Safety is at the heart of everything we teach at Southwest Tech,” said Public Safety Director Gail Goodman. “We’re proud to partner with organizations like Enbridge that play a crucial role in helping us prepare and equip first responders who protect our communities every day.”

The partnership between Enbridge and Southwest Tech underscores a shared commitment to community safety and workforce readiness. Through initiatives like this, students gain the training and confidence to respond effectively in life-saving situations–ultimately strengthening the safety network across southern Utah.
