About Southwest Tech

Southwest Technical College is proud to be your local, accredited technical college. We serve Iron, Beaver, Garfield, and Kane counties providing technical, competency-based, employer-driven education. We offer year-round schedules, flexible lab and classroom hours, and a large selection of courses and programs. Southwest Tech is affordable, local and we support high school and adult students in exploring, developing, and upgrading careers.

Our History

1994 – 2000: Southwest ATCSR (Applied Technology Center Service Region)

July 1, 2000: HB261: Southwest Applied Technology Center was created.

June 2001: HB1003: Created the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT). Took effect September 1, 2001. Southwest Applied Technology College became one of eight campuses of UCAT.

2009: HB15: Changed the governance from the Utah State Board of Regents to the Utah College of Applied Technology Board of Trustees.

2017: SB238: Renamed college to Southwest Technical College. Designates each Technical College as bodies politic and corporate 53B-2-101(1).

2018: HB300: Amended the membership of the Technical College Board of Directors and enacts provisions related to the Higher Education Strategic Planning Commission.

2020: SB111: Change of higher education structure and governance that merged the
Utah System of Higher Education and the Utah System of Technical Colleges.

2021: Southwest Technical College opens the Cedar City Business & Innovation Center.

Our Locations

Southwest Technical College (Southwest Tech) is one of eight technical colleges in the Utah System of Higher Education. Its service region encompasses over 15,000 square miles of Beaver, Garfield, Iron, and Kane counties.

Southwest Tech’s Main Campus consists of two buildings in Cedar City, Utah: the Health Professions & Trades Building (757 W 800 S) and the Automotive and Technology Building (510 W 800 S). All programs offered at Southwest Tech are available at the Main Campus. This Main Campus also houses the Cedar City Innovation Center, a business launch hub that gives entrepreneurs access to guidance, mentorship, potential funding, a maker space, and more. The Innovation Center is made possible through partnerships with SUU, Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, the Small Business Development Center, Small Business Administration, Women’s Business Center of Utah, SCORE, and the Economic Development Administration.

Southwest Tech also has Instructional Service Centers in Kanab (733 S Cowboy Way), at Beaver High School (195 E Center Street), and in Richfield (800 W 200 S). In partnership with the Kane School District and Utah State University, the Kane County Instructional Service Center (ISC) offers a post-secondary Nursing Assistant program, as well as community courses, short-term training, and various high school courses. In partnership with Beaver County School District, the Instructional Service Center at Beaver High School offers a post-secondary Nursing Assistant program and high school courses. In partnership with Snow College, the Richfield Instructional Service Center offers a post-secondary Commercial Driver’s License Class A program.

Through strong partnerships, innovative programming, and a deep commitment to student success, Southwest Technical College continues to expand access to hands-on education throughout Southwest Utah. Whether at the Main Campus or an Instructional Service Center, students acquire real-world skills that lead to meaningful careers and help build our local workforce. As we grow, we remain committed to delivering high-quality technical education that empowers individuals and transforms communities.
