Governor Spencer Cox visited Southwest Tech to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Cedar City Business & Innovation Center. The Innovation Center serves as a business launch hub to give entrepreneurs access to guidance, mentorship, potential funding, a maker space, and more. The Innovation Center is housed on Southwest Tech’s campus and is possible through the partnership with SUU, Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Small Business Development Center, Small Business Administration, Women’s Business Center of Southern Utah, SCORE, and the Economic Development Administration. While on campus, Governor Cox also met with education leaders, regional college access advisors, and high school seniors to discuss the state’s college access advising program. This advising effort is led by The Utah College Advising Corps (UCAC) and its purpose is to provide high school students with a deeper understanding of the options and scholarships available at any of the sixteen public colleges and universities. The students and advisors shared with Governor Cox their hurdles and success stories of implementing the program.
