About Southwest Tech

Southwest Technical College is proud to be your local, accredited technical college. We serve Iron, Beaver, Garfield, and Kane counties providing technical, competency-based, employer-driven education. We offer year-round schedules, flexible lab and classroom hours, and a large selection of courses and programs. Southwest Tech is affordable, local and we support high school and adult students in exploring, developing, and upgrading careers.

    Our History

    1994 – 2000: Southwest ATCSR (Applied Technology Center Service Region)

    July 1, 2000: HB261: Southwest Applied Technology Center was created.

    June 2001: HB1003: Created the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT). Took effect September 1, 2001. Southwest Applied Technology College became one of eight campuses of UCAT.

    2009: HB15: Changed the governance from the Utah State Board of Regents to the Utah College of Applied Technology Board of Trustees.

    2017: SB238: Renamed college to Southwest Technical College. Designates each Technical College as bodies politic and corporate 53B-2-101(1).

    2018: HB300: Amended the membership of the Technical College Board of Directors and enacts provisions related to the Higher Education Strategic Planning Commission.

    2020: SB111: Change of higher education structure and governance that merged the
    Utah System of Higher Education and the Utah System of Technical Colleges.
    Planning Commission.

    2021: Southwest Technical College opens the Cedar City Business & Innovation Center.
