Southwest Technical College is pleased to announce that Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has donated $10,000 to the Southwest Tech scholarship program.
Southwest Technical College President Brennan M. Wood said, “This is the second donation our scholarship program has received. They join the Cedar City Rotary in allowing Southwest Tech to enable us to fulfill our mission which is, “to provide education and job skill training through individualized competency-based programs in response to the needs of students, employers and the communities we serve.”
“A donation of $10,000 will have a significant impact on the College’s ability to serve deserving students in Southern Utah,” said Tom Heaton, Region Business Manager for Rocky Mountain Power in Southern Utah.
Thanks to an initial $25,000 gift from the Cedar City Rotary Club, Southwest Technical College was able to offer scholarships averaging $703 to allow 33 students to earn their certificates. Based on the initial results, the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation donation will help 15 students earn a skilled certificate.
“We are so grateful for this generous donation from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation. This donation will not only mean a lot to our students who need financial assistance, it also has a significant meaning for the future workforce of our four-county region encompassing Iron, Beaver, Garfield and Kane Counties. With an Iron County Poverty rate of 21%, the more scholarship dollars we can offer the stronger our economy will become,” said Wood.
