FAQs

You have questions. We have answers.

No. A high school diploma is not an admissions requirement. It is required only for students seeking Title IV federal financial aid.

Tuition is based on the credits you enroll in each month. Most programs are $95.00 per credit hour. The Commercial Driver’s License Class A program is $295.00 per credit hour. Adult students also pay applicable fees. High school students pay no tuition, though most courses still carry fees for books, supplies, clothing, or equipment.

Yes. We offer federal aid through the Pell Grant program to those who qualify, plus a scholarship program that reviews applications monthly. Some students also receive assistance through Deseret Industries, the Department of Workforce Services, the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, Vocational Rehabilitation, or the Veterans Administration.

Certainly. Drop by our main campus at 757 W 800 S, Cedar City, UT. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Become a student and sign up by following the steps in our enrollment checklist above. If you’re interested in short community courses, reach out to Student Services and we’ll point you to the right registration.

Many programs don’t follow a traditional semester schedule. Open-entry means start dates almost every month of the year. Competency-based means you learn a set of skills, then prove mastery to an instructor before moving on to the next course.

It depends entirely on the program you choose. In many programs the length of training depends on your own flexibility and pace, thanks to the open-entry, competency-based format.

Often, yes. We work closely with Southern Utah University through a dual enrollment agreement, so many Southwest Tech credits count toward an SUU degree. Snow College’s TechConnect program also provides transfer credit. High school students can earn high school credit for most courses completed here.
