Volunteer Firefighter

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Pass a background check.
• Possess a valid UT driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Live within five miles of one of three stations.
• About the Volunteer Firefighter Position
• This is for a volunteer firefighter position, not full-time.
• You will be assigned a pager and respond to fire calls.
• Volunteers may work night, and weekend shifts upon completion of the recruit academy and chief’s approval.
• Once hired, you will receive a check twice a year based on drill attendance, percentage of fire calls, nights on the house, and extended shifts.
• When you work 24-hour shifts, weekends, etc. you are paid on City’s bi-weekly payroll.
• Potential seasonal wildland positions are available from April to October.
• When a full-time position becomes available, the pool of CCFD volunteers receives first consideration to apply.

Fire Academy Training

• This is a very aggressive time schedule and commitment.
• Training is conducted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Saturdays for a six-month period, with 80% required attendance.
• Classroom, quizzes, hands-on training for skills, reading, studying, and preparing for tests and UFRA certification.
• Must be able to complete a physical agility course within 10 minutes (annual requirement).
• Must be able to complete a 3-mile pack test wearing a 45-pound vest within 45 minutes (annual requirement).
• Obtain shots and/or tests:
  • Shots: Tuberculosis, Tetanus, Hepatitis
  • Tests: Hepatitis, AIDS, TB
